I have been an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator since 2016, and over the years I have been teaching the CGC skills to my clients/students and their dogs during one-on-one private lessons, group classes, and (hello, hi!) workshops.  So I include the program in my training plans often, for a few different reasons (some of which I go over in “Why the CGC?“), but ultimately because I see it making a difference for my clients and their relationship with their dogs.

During the first 2-hour part of the workshop, I will review the ten CGC skills along with what I usually look for when I administer a test, I will demonstrate with a demo dog, and we will do a practice run with the dog/handler teams who have signed up for the working spots.

After the lunch break, working teams will also have the option to test for the CGC, and the handlers will receive feedback and individualized training advice based on their dog’s temperament and their overall training goals (having a well-rounded, balanced companion dog, therapy dog work, specific sports, etc).
